90. Nick Cave—THE BOATMAN’S CALL

This Australian rocker has been around a long time and has done a variety of styles of music. He’s been consistently excellent—thoughtful, humorous, irreverent, loud, quiet, fast, and slow. The record captures him at his most thoughtful. Cave is capable of some truly beautiful and inspiring music. Some of that is here—in songs such as “Into My Arms,” “People Ain’t No Good,” “There is a Kingdom,” and “Green Eyes.” I like the theology in “Into My Arms”: “I don’t believe in an interventionist God … [but] I believe in love.”
