67. Richard and Linda Thompson—POUR DOWN LIKE SILVER

This record came in the middle of the wonderful period of achingly beautiful collaborations by this couple, still several years before their relationship ended. There are several classics here with the perfect matching of songwriter (Richard) with singer (Linda): “For Shame of Doing Wrong,” “Night Comes In,” “Beat the Retreat,” and perhaps their greatest song, “Dimming of the Day.” This is “new folk” at its absolute best.
