This New Englander transplanted into the Austin, Texas, hotbed of Wavelength-type music is a bit of an enigma. He’s a terrific songwriter and engaging performer (I’ve been blessed to see him twice here in tiny little Harrisonburg, VA). He seems like a kind, gentle person—who writes many tragic songs about the dark side of life. I do hope he’s actually happy. This record has some of his best sad and beautiful songs: “Cry,” “Green Mountains and Me,” “Black T-Shirt,” and “Beautiful Thing,” among others.
